Under the Better Access Scheme, you can ask your GP for a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Your GP will ask a series of questions regarding your mental health and emotional wellbeing. Your GP needs to send the MHTP to your psychologist (or you can email it).
After 6 sessions, your psychologist will write back to your GP about your progress, and then your GP can review the MHTP and you will gain the rebate for another 4 sessions. That means you can access 10 sessions per calendar year. After those sessions have been used, you can obtain another MHTP for the following calendar year.
As of February 2025, the MHTP rebate is $141.85. This means, after each session, you will receive that rebate back into the bank account you have nominated with Medicare.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have a valid mental health treatment plan. I cannot process the rebate if there is no active MHTP linked to your medicare number.
Yes, I have an NDIS workers check and am authorised to provide psychological intervention to NDIS participants.
If you use a plan manager, I can send your invoices straight to them for processing.
If you are self-managed, you will need to pay the invoice yourself and then upload the receipt in to your portal.
To use private health insurance, you will need to pay for the session and then upload the receipt into your private health insurance portal to receive the rebate.
Please check your health insurance PDS for information about your policy limits.
